Why Brands Ignore Your Creator DM

Five common problems can make an otherwise promising creator pitch difficult for a brand to evaluate.

ArcLabs Editorial

The message is too generic

A brand receives a message that could have been sent to almost anyone. There is no clear reason why the creator is a fit, so there is little reason to continue the conversation.

Specificity creates context. Show that you understand the brand and explain why your audience or content fits.

The offer is unclear

If the recipient cannot quickly understand what you are proposing, they have to do the work of reconstructing the opportunity themselves.

State what you are offering, what type of collaboration you have in mind, and what action you want them to take next.

The message is too long

A first message does not need to contain the entire campaign proposal. Overloading the introduction with unnecessary information makes the important details harder to find.

There is no evidence of fit

You do not need a huge audience to demonstrate relevance. Your content, audience, previous collaborations, or niche can all help establish why the partnership makes sense.

If there is a relevant piece of content, reference it rather than making broad claims about your influence.

There is no clear next step

A good pitch should make the response simple. Ask whether they are open to discussing the opportunity, request the right contact, or suggest a specific next step.

Do not make the recipient guess what you want from them.
